PHIT, which stands for Personal Health Investment Today, is federal legislation (H.R. 1267/S.482) that would allow any American to use tax-free accounts like HSAs and FSAs to pay for qualified fitness expenses, such as health club membership, exercise equipment, and youth sports fees. If passed, you would see a savings of 20-30% on your family’s fitness expenses. By adding physical activity to the IRS code, you will be able to budget for physical activity in the same way you currently do for prescriptions and visits to a doctor’s office. Now is the time to push PHIT over the finish line. Members of Congress are expected to consider omnibus spending legislation that could serve as vehicle for the PHIT provision. Ask your members of Congress to include PHIT in any omnibus spending bill.
